Easy & Fun Watercolor Salt Art Craft Your Child Will Love
You’ll only need FIVE household items for this easy and fun watercolor salt art craft!
Watercolor Salt Art is a great craft for kids of all ages, including adults.
Watercolor salt art is a versatile craft and awesome for children and adults.
This craft has become one of my sons favorite “go to” activities when he’s bored.
The watercolor salt art craft is perfect, because most of the items needed are in your home already!
And if they aren’t, they are budget friendly!
Now Let’s Create!
For this Watercolor Salt Art Craft, we are using watercolors, white or clear liquid glue, iodized salt and thick card-stock paper.
(You can use regular printer paper, I’d place something underneath it because the glue/watercolors will bleed through.)
If you don’t have watercolors, you can add food coloring into water.
STEP ONE
You or your kiddo will use the liquid glue to draw out the design they’d like to paint with watercolors!
STEP TWO
Make a foil tray that fix the size of your paper. You could also use a plate or cookie sheet. You’re just going to want something that can catch all the unused salt.
After the design is complete, place the paper in the foil tray and coat the image in the iodized salt.
Let it sit for a few minutes, before dumping the extra salt into the tray.
(Once all the pictures are salted, grab a ziplock baggie and save unused salt for next time!)
STEP THREE
Let the glue dry. (About 5 – 10 minutes)
Grab your watercolor pallet and let the kiddos go to town coloring their design!
Make sure the watercolors are really wet, so the brush soaks up a lot of color.
DOT the salted area with the watercolor.
DO NOT swipe with the brush or the salt will come up.
STEP FOUR
Once your kiddo is done creating their master piece, set a side to dry completely!
(Recommend 20-30 minutes.)
*BONUS STEP*
This is NOT required.
Once the artwork is done drying, spray a clear coat over the paper to hold all the salt together.
The salt will dry and stay on the paper, HOWEVER overtime it will loosen and fall off.
**I recommend this step if you are going to be hanging/displaying the watercolor salt art.**
I hope you enjoy making this watercolor salt art craft with your kiddo! I certainly did!
